The Iether Books

Our first books to be written and published, the Iether Continuum trilogy is set in a world held together by the iether, the essence of the created order. By the Creator's decree, some possess the power to wield the iether, but they must choose if they use it for good or for ill. The legacy continues in the Iether Consummation trilogy (currently being published) with a new generation.

The legends of the mighty iether touched seven are still told across the empire and beyond, even five centuries after their heroic deeds spared humanity from its oldest enemy, the darkness. The power of the iether, the very fabric and essence of the universe, gifted to them by the Creator, saved the world long ago, and these famed warriors united the scattered human tribes into a single nation. Driven by the development of iether-based machinery and the runic system of iether control, the empire thrives—at least on the surface.

The secret seventh order of the military exists to weasel out corruption under the auspices of the imperial government. But when one of the order’s agents, a young man named Wess Anthry, takes on a mission that leads him to a most unusual prisoner, he begins to uncover the depth of a treacherous deception that threatens all he knows. Who is this girl with the intricate iether markings on her arm? And how can she possibly help them?

Why can he hear the iether’s song?

Five peaceful years have passed since their incredible journey and the purging of the darkness from the human empire, but Wess is growing increasingly unsettled. From the beautiful melody of the iether that he shouldn’t be able to hear, to his uncertainty about how to respond to Wren’s obvious affection for him, to the questions and danger that seem to follow him around, he wrestles with understanding the Creator’s plan. Could learning more of the mysterious iether touched Ysile Mezrith shed some light on his plights? Wess embarks on a soul-searching quest for knowledge, but what he finds will change their lives forever.

Prospering under its young rulers, the empire’s security is shattered by a strange report from the south of the kobay lands. An immense shadow, dark enough to block out the sun, is moving toward the empire, and their greatest weapon against the darkness, the iether, seems ineffective. How can they fight such an immaterial enemy? To complicate the matter, a mysterious girl, whose understanding of the world is vastly different from their own, has suddenly appeared near a kobay village, running from a fear she refuses to speak of.

Wess, Wren, and their friends find themselves faced with a terrible race against time as the darkness plays out its destructive plot. Can their homes, their joys, or even their lives, survive the difficult choices ahead?

For generations, the empire rescued and ruled by Wess and Wren stood strong. It became the center of admiration and instruction for all the races, the home of the greatest iether-based innovations, and the bastion of belief in a powerful and benevolent Creator.

Released from a time lock of a century’s duration, Nirim awakes to a world vastly different from the one he knew. The empire is gone, his friends are gone, no one remembers their dark enemy, and everywhere his kind is despised or ignored. More than that, he has nearly nothing to explain to him why he was left behind or what he is supposed to be doing. What happened to his home during his hiatus? What do Miralla’s cryptic messages mean? What could the Creator possibly want from him?

Nirim must travel in search of answers, trusting in the Creator’s unseen hand and piecing together the puzzle that is his new life. With each step of his journey and each challenge that arises, Nirim realizes something far greater than himself is at work, and if he fails, the world will suffer for it. Can he and his ragtag team of companions fulfill their purpose, or will all their efforts come to nothing?

Miralla knows that her cousin Nirim will be safe in the time lock, whatever the Creator’s plans for him may be. As the empire’s seer, Miralla follows the Creator’s visions, even if she can make little sense of them at the time. But what she cannot decipher is the sudden disappearance of Ista, heiress apparent to the imperial throne. Ista’s absence has sent the already quaking empire to its knees, and Miralla fears civil war may erupt. When an attempted kidnapping leaves Miralla lost and alone far from the empire, she must rely upon her unintentional rescuer, the seerrine Addagan, to help her find her way home.

Deep in an unfamiliar forest, Ista wakes up to find herself at the mercy of a strange but powerful kit, a taciturn beast lord called Firn. He claims he bears her no ill will, but Ista struggles to believe him. Her unwilling intrusion into the kit’s forest home has brought her directly into danger’s path, and she has no choice but to trust in the very kit she holds responsible for her troubles, if she ever wants to safely return to the empire.

The homelands of the different races suffer from dire plights, pushing them toward open conflict. The cousins face the persistent, insidious threats of the darkness as they navigate circumstances, both personal and political, that seem increasingly out of their control. Questions swirl in their minds, all leading to one choice: can they trust that the Creator’s design is good? Or will desperation and disappointment be their only end?
